Q

How is the core area being managed?

A
  • This area is covered by natural vegetation and is strictly for long-term research projects, environmental education, and tourism
  • Estimated that the population in this zone is only around 200 people - might be engaged in small scale agriculture such as farming of coconuts and fruits

A
  • Home to endangered species such as the orangutan and the clouded leopard
  • Clouded leopard is endemic to the islands of Borneo, there are though to be fewer than 10,000 left in the wild
  • This makes them very vulnerable to environmental changes & human activity
