perhaps the point that Fletcher is trying to establish is that we are given more responsibility for the decisions that we make. We are asked to reason for ourselves about how love should be applied. Unlike other ethical theories, we are being treated as grown-ups in effect rather than children who are given rules to obey.
the counterargument to the strength that SE treats us like adults
Whilst this might seem good in theory this relies on
us having the relevant expertise to make a judgement about what is in the best interests of someone who is suffering from a severe condition and it also requires that we are able to make a judgement about the likely outcome. There are many things in situations in life, and euthanasia in its various forms may be one of those situations, where actions do not always lead to obvious outcomes. We do not always know whether our choice of action will turn out to be the most loving. The response that we have to decide on the likely balance of probabilities is not totally helpful.

However, some might argue that this makes situation ethics more realistic because probabilities, arguably, are all we have to work with when discussing medical ethics.

situation ethics offers some help with regard to euthanasia in that it frees us from religious rules and gives us a flexibility to the situation, it is also not totally helpful in that it assumes that there is a clear path forward in each situation and that it is obvious that is the most loving thing to do. This may require more understanding of the situation at hand than most of us may possess. It is of limited help with regard to euthanasia.
