SDA Flashcards
1
Q
What is the SDA concept
A
Lack of posterior teeth
-satisfactory oral function without RPD
-anterior/premolar dentition
-
2
Q
how many occlusal units are acceptable for SDA
A
3-5 units per quadrant
- 1 occ unit - pair of occluding premolars
- 2occ units - pair of occluding molars
3
Q
what can SDA provide for a patient
A
sufficient oral function and comfort
-sufficient mandibular stability
4
Q
INDICATIONS for SDA
A
- missing posterior teeth with3-5occ u left
- sufficient occ contact
- favourable prognosis of remaining teeth
- patient not motivated to continue with treatment plan
- limited financial availability
5
Q
CONTRAIND for SDA
A
- poor remaining dentition prognosis
- untreated/advanced perio disease
- pre-existing TMD
- signs of pathological toothwear
- severe maloccusion - class2/3
6
Q
examination for SDA
A
- History/signs of TMD(usual stuff)/skeletal relationship
- signs of bruxism/toothwear
- periodontal assessment
- poor prognosis
- occlusal eval
7
Q
negative aspects of a perio assessment
-what does perio cause in SDA patients
A
drifting teeth/loss of alveolar bone/loss of space
-causes distal tooth migration
8
Q
what are the 5 requirements of occlusal stability
A
- stable contact of all teeth of equal intensity in CR
- anterior guidance
- disclusion of all posterior teeth in protrusive movement
- disclusion of posterior teeth on NW side during lateral movement
- disclusion of posterior teeth on working side in lateral movement
9
Q
How can an SDA be extended
A
distal cantilever
conventional bridgework
RPD
Implant
