Q

method of filling hard gelatin capsules
-4 steps

A

Rectifying - a sorting mechanism guides capsules’ bodies into
a holding ring.
* Separation - a similar apparatus holds the caps and the caps and bodies are separated from each other.
* Filling - the holding ring with the capsule bodies is rotated under a hopper containing the formulation. The formulation is forced into the capsule body either as a premeasured plug or to fill the capsule body.
* Closing - when the capsule bodies have been filled the cap-holding ring is secured over the body-holding ring and pins
push the two halves back together

Q

technologies employed in the manufacture of SDF 2: Gastro-retentive dosage forms -BENEFITS

A

To prolong transit time in the stomach to maximise:
* Drug absorption
* Improves solubility of drugs less soluble in low pH
* Great for local delivery (within stomach and upper small intestines)

Q

technologies employed in the manufacture of SDF 2: Gastro-retentive dosage forms: floating

A

Floating - float on gastric contents due to their low bulk density, Prepared from hydrophilic matrices that either have a density lower than one or their density drops below one after immersion in the gastric fluids due to swelling

Q

technologies employed in the manufacture of SDF 2: Gastro-retentive dosage forms: swelling

A

Based on a hydrophilic polymer that forms a hydrogel, Device retained within stomach due to its large dimension and maintaining the stomach in the ‘fed’ mode by means of
mechanical sensation.

Q

technologies employed in the manufacture of SDF 2: Gastro-retentive dosage forms: Bio adhesion

A

Technique involves coating of microcapsules with bioadhesive
polymer, which enables them to adhere to intestinal mucosa and remain for longer time period in the GI while the active
drug is released from the device matrix.
* Cationic chitosan polymers are known for their ability to bind well to gastric mucosa
