Scuentific Method Flashcards
Independent variable
A variable that is intentionally changed to observe its effect on the dependent variable
Dependent variable
The event studied that is expected to change when the u dependent variable is changed.
Carbs
Group of organic compounds including sugars, starches, cellulose, and gums
String of simple sugars
Provide you with most of your energy
Monosaccharide
A simple sugar and simplest carbohydrate
Polysaccharide
Carbohydrate whose molecules consist of a number of sugar molecules bonded together.
Lipid
Only bio molecule not made of monomers
Nucleic acid
Building blocks of living organisms. DNa and rRNA are types of nucleic acids. All the nucleic acids acids work together to help cells replicate and build proteins.
Nucleotides
Monomer=building blocks. Of nucleic acids.
Monomer
Molecule that forms the Vadim unit for polymers. Monomers bind to other monomers to form a repeating chain molecule.
Smaller units
Polymers
Many monomers joined together.
Protein
A molecule composed of polymers of amino acids joined together by peptide bonds. It contains nitrogen
Amino acid
Used in every cell of your body to build proteins you need to survive.
Monomer
A molecule that can be bonded to other identical molecules to form a polymer
Polymer
A substance that has a molecular structure consisting chiefly or entirely of similar units bonded together
Reactant
Substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a reaction
Product
A quantity obtained by multiplying quantities together or from an analogous algebraic operation
Catalyst
Substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change
Enzyme
Substance produced by a living organism that acts as a catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction
Substrate
A substance layer that underlies something or on which some process occurs
Hypothesis
In science, a proposition set forth as an explanation for the occurrence of some specified group of phenomena, asserted as conjecture (working hypothesis) or highly probable.
