a fibromuscular cutaneous sac, located between the penis and anus. It is dual-chambered, forming an expansion of the perineum
What is the embryological origin of the scrotum?
paired genital swellings. They fuse in the midline - marked in adult by scrotal raphe
what 3 major paired structures are found in the scrotum
testes, epididymis, spermatic cord
Which smooth muscle sheet is beneath the skin of the scrotum?
the dartos muscle
How does the dartos muscle control temperature?
wrinkles skin to decrease surface area, reducing heat loss
which arteries supply the scrotum?
anterior scrotal artery (from external pudendal) and posterior scrotal artery (from internal pudendal)
which veins drain the scrotum, and in turn drain into the external pudendal veins
the scrotal veins
what nerves innervate the scrotum?
anterior and posterior scrotal nerves
where does the lymphatics of the scrotum drain into?
the superficial inguinal nodes
