Flint can course a fire but is also very brittle and sharp. Flint can also be looked as as a weapon.

This suggests Scrooge can have a cold heart

Low temperature can mean bad mood

He is too tight fisted to put any coal in the fire so he can save money.

Scrooge does not trust Bob because he is lower class and scrooge thinks he might steal
