May third.

A

Do you remember the day he turned fifteen?

25
Q

(Claire shakes her head)

A

It was almost two years ago, the day your brain zorched. The plan was, you were gonna take him to the Piermont fair. Sounded like fun and Phil didn’t wanna go. So that morning you got up early. You set out the Fruity Pebbles and you were about to leave. Only he woke up and said he didn’t want no Fruity Pebbles, he wanted a hot breakfast. But you were about to go, so you asked him why he couldn’t make his own breakfast. And he starts throwing things around the kitchen. and you’re just standing at the stove. Making him the eggs and bacon he asked for. You’re frying up the bacon nice and crisp the way he likes it and he says, “Never mind, I’m not hungry anymore.” And he goes into the bedroom and slams the door. Because a good tantrum always knocked him out.

26
Q

and I tell him to go wait in the car–

A

Claire–

27
Q

– because we were going to Piermont. And I pick up the frying pan and walk into the bedroom, and he’s sleeping on his side. And I drain the scalding hot bacon grease into his ear. And I come outside and throw the frying pan into the bushes and get in the car. And we drive to Piermont in silence.

A

Then you went to went to the fun house. And you said your brother Zack loved that best.

28
Q

Then what happened

A

You fainted. and when you woke up, everything was gone.
Well whoopty-doo. There you have it, all wrapped in a big red bow. But Claire, the whole point ith that I’m not that perthon anymore. We’re going to Canada. Come on Claire, it wathn’t all like he thaid. I love you, claire.
She doesn’t want to go with you
I wish you’d remember thome of the good thingth.
