Screening Methods Flashcards
photoplethysmograph
detect blood volume changes in the microvascular bed of tissue. uses light like a camera
microvascular
arterioles, capillaries, and venules
peripheral circulation
circulation in the outer parts of the heart and body: arms, legs, and feet
ANS Assessment (challenge-breathing and standing)
cardiac autonomic reflex test
Valsalva ratio
the maximum heart rate generated by the Valsalva maneuver divided by the lowest heart rate occurring within 30 s of the peak heart rate.
Valsalva maneuver
breathing method that may slow your heart when it’s beating too fast. To do it, you breathe out strongly through your mouth while holding your nose tightly closed. This creates a forceful strain that can trigger your heart to react and go back into normal rhythm
methods used in a screening
blood pressure monitor, plates and electrodes, oximeter, ans assessment
patients or clients
clients
diagnosis or deviation?
deviation from optimal health
Wellness Index
is an index of the thirty biomarkers we measure in the screening. If a person has a
tumour, they can still have a great wellness index. In that case they have great physiological forces that
could help them combat the tumour together with their doctors.
HRV
heart rate variability. High HRV= healthy, fit, and well rested heart
Fitness Biomarkers
Cardiovascular fitness, performance capacity, exercise recovery index
cardiovascular fitness
the measure of variation between two heart beats. Will decrease if overtraining.
performance capacity
your capacity to be physical active for a longer time. -the same as VO2 compared to HRV-best measured during exercise
exercise recovery index
ability to recovery after exercise or high activity
