Screening Flashcards
Colonoscopy guidelines for pts with UC
Risk increase is proportional to both duration and extent of disease. Risk may be even higher in patients with superimposed PSC. Most suggest screening shoulld begin once disease has been present for at least 8 years regardless of the age of the patient with a longer interval considered by some if only the left colon has been involved. Once begun, repeat colonoscopy should be done every 1-2 years.
Most appropriate initial step in evaluation of pt with thyroid nodule
Clinical eval with TSH level and thyroid US.
Pt without CA risk factors or suspicious ultrasound findings but with normal or elevated TSH should next undergo?
FNA
Patient with no cancer risk factors or suspicious ultrasound findings and LOW TSH levels should next be evaluated with?
Thyroid scintigraphy, preferably with iodine-123. If hypofunctioning, evaluate further with FNA
