Bagpipes
• Wind instrument
• Chanter — melody, 3 drones — harmonies and an airbag.
• Played solo, for military or marching purposes in pipe bands.
Accordion
• Associated with Scottish dance bands.
• Right hand plays the melody on either a button or a piano fingerboard.
• Left hand operates bellows and plays chords.
Fiddle
• Scottish term for a Violin.
• Tends to copy intricate ornament of the bagpipes — ie. drones and grace note.
• Found in Scottish bands or folk groups.
Clarsach
• Small Celtic Harp.
• Tuned to one scale.
• Used as a solo instrument, or in a folk group.
Bodhrán
• Drum used in Celtic music.
• Held in left hand.
• Played with a beater in the right hand.
Flute
• Made from Ebony.
• 3 to 9 keys.
• Held horizontally.
• Produced by blowing across a hole in the head joint.
Tin Whistle
• Held vertically.
• Sound is made by blowing into the mouthpiece of a fipple.
• No keys, only open holes.
• High piercing sound.
Low Whistle
• Played and built in the same way as a Tin Whistle, but is an octave lower and makes a sweeter, more gentle sound.

• Plays traditional music, but includes a singer and a wider range of instruments.

• Semiquaver followed by a dotted quaver.
• It is a long note, followed by a shorter one.
