What treaty asserted Scottish Independence?
The Treaty of Birgham.
What became acknowledged in relation to the treaty of Birgham in 1293?
Balliol was forced to release Edward from any promises made in the treaty because the marriage did not happen therefore the treaty was no longer valid.
What did Balliol experience difficulty with and why?
Imposing will as he had no experience of being on the throne and Scotland has had no real ruler for 5 years.
What did Balliol recognise Edward as?
He recognised Edward as his superior overlord, meant that Balliol had to serve Edward and if not Edward could claim the land back.
How did Edward demonstrate his superiority?
He made Balliol attend his parliament and over ruled decisions made by the Scots such as the Macduff case and the Burgess of Berwick.
