The aim of the study was to investigate genetic variants associated with the development of AN. DNA samples were collected of 1205 females with AN and 1948 females in the control group without AN. They tested to make sure that only people of European descent were included to help check on gene varients. The matched control group had BMI’s of between 18 and 29 and were matched by age and ethnicity. They found that there is no single genome that had significance which was what the researchers expected from previous research in the area. The evidence gathered suggests that variants in the EPHX2 gene may increase the risk of developing AN.
