Lead/Cycle Time
time required for a product to move though a process from start to finish
Processing Time
time it takes the employee to go through al of their work elements before repeating them
Value-Added
transforms, customer wants it
Non-Value Added
create no value in the eye of the consumer, pure waste
Non-Value Added- Necessary
no value, but cannot eliminate (required)
Waste
anything that does not add value
Inventory
material or information that is waiting for processing
Over Production
producing more information or product than the ultimate customer requires
Waiting
time spent waiting on items required to complete a task
Moving Items
transporting, temporary locating, filing, stocking, etc.
Over Processing
effort and time spent processing information or material that is not adding value
Unnecessary Movement
any motion that does not add value to the product or service
Defects
repairing/reworking/scrapping material or information
Behaviors
not questioning the process

exist when a supplier and purchaser work together to remove waste and drive down costs
