How many materials are made of particles?
All materials in the world
What determines whether they’re solid, liquid or gas?
The arrangement if the particles
Every material has different properties what does this determine
The behaviour of the material
What are some of the different properties?
Shiny
Hard
Conducts energy
What is the word for a solid to a liquid
Melting 💧
What is the word for a liquid to gas
Evaporating 💨
What is the word for gas to liquid?
Condensation 💦
What’s the word for a liquid to solid?
Freezing 🧊
What substance has more than one type of particle?
A mixture
How do you find out the density of an object
Mass
Density = ———
Volume
How do you calculate the volume?
Height x width x depth
If you put water in different cups would it take the shape of that cup?
Yes
If you put a gas into 2 different beakers would it take the shape of that beaker?
Yes
And it would also task the volume of that beaker
Can a solid be compressed?
No
Can a liquid be compressed?
No
Can a gas be compressed?
Yes
Does a solid have a fixed shape?
Yes
Most of the time
Do liquid and gas have a fixed shape?
No they do not
True or false substances at the temperature ABOVE, its boiling point, always gases
True
True or false substances at a temperature between its melting and boiling point, always liquid?
True
True or false temperatures below, a substances melting point are always solid?
True
What is diffusion?
It’s the movement of particles from high concentration to low concentration.
Does down concentration require energy?
NO!
Can solid particles diffuse?
No because they are fixed
True or false liquid and gas particles can’t freely move
?
False because they can acc freely move meaning they can diffuse!
True or false liquid and gas diffuse quicker when there’s not much kinetic energy?
False
The bigger partials are heavier and will take longer to move and so diffuse.
Yes that is right.
Why would a balloon pop on a hot day?
A balloon may pop on a very hot day because the particles of gas get hot and get energised, making them bounce off the wall, making it full and pop!
Why would the bottle of water collapse in the freezer?
A bottle to water may collapse in the freezer because the particles energy (if they are the inside ones.) This means they have no collision, but the outside particles will push the bottle walls in
Does a solid have a height density.
Yes
What is sublimation?
It’s the process from solid to gas
If the partial is smaller does it diffuse quicker?
No the bigger the partial the harder for it to defuse
True or false when partials are colder they are smaller?
True
