Scientific Method Flashcards
What are the 6 steps in the scientific method?
Observation, Hypothesis, Test hypothesis, Analyze results, Conclude and Replicate
What is the control group?
group that gets no treatment (placebo)
What is the experimental group?
Group that gets experimental treatment
What is a single blind experiment?
Participants don’t know if they’re getting placebo or nit
What is a double-blind experiment?`
`Participants and researchers don’t know who’s getting a placebo.
What is the independent variable?
What the scientist changes or what changes on its own.
ex: How tall are you at different ages? Age
What is the dependant variable?
What is being studied/measured
Ex: How tall are you at different ages? Height
What is the 3rd variable problem?
When a 3rd variable effects BOTH of the variables in a correlation study
What are the 3 main experimental flaws?
Small sample size, Participants expectaiton and Experimental bias
What are 2 solutions to participents expectations?
Placebo and Random assignment
What are 2 solutions to experimental bias?
Single blind - participants don’t know who has placxebo
Double blind - no one knows who has placebo
