Scientific Inquiry Skills Flashcards
Independent Variable
Something that is purposefully changed that affects the dependent variable
Eg. CO2 solution in - (mL)
Dependent Variable
Measured results that were influenced by the independent variable
Eg. Height of bubbles (cm)
Controlled
Variables that don’t change
Eg. Time left unattended
Control group
Makes sure the independent variable is the only thing affecting the dependent variable
Accuracy
How close results are to the ‘true value’
- Average (closest to true value)
Percision
How closely a set of measurement values agree with each other
- Range (smallest)
Repeatability
Same conditions and method > same/similar results
Reproducibility
Different conditions and method > same/similar results
When do you use a line graph?
When the X-Axis affects the graph
Eg. 10% mL of CO2
When do you use a bar graph?
When the X-Axis are categories
Eg. Herbicide A/Herbicide B
