Scientific Inquiry Flashcards
The different ways scientist study the natural world
Scientific inquiry
Questions you can answer by making observations
Scientific questions
A possible answer to a scientific question or explanation for a set of observations
Hypothesis
manipulated variable (independent)
The variable that is changed
Responding variable (dependent)
The variable that is expected to change because of the manipulated variable
True or false?
Many trials are needed before hypothesis can be accepted as true T
Factors that can chance in an experiment
Variable
An investigation in which all variable except one remain the same
Controlled experiment
Facts, figures and other evidence gathered through observation
Data
Provides an organized way to collect and record observations
Data table
In order for all scientists around the globe to communicate results they use the same system of measurement
International system of units (SI)
After data is collected the need to be interpreted or explained
Graphs
After sciences interpret their dad at the draw conclusion about their hypothesis
Conclusion
The process that scientists use an inquiry include posing questions developing hypothesis designing experiments collecting and interpreting data drawing conclusions and communicating ideas and results
The process of inquiry
