Scientific Experiment #2 Flashcards
what is quantitive data?
minutes, ratios, height, weight
what is qualitative data?
descriptive word that evaluates something without resorting to numbers
what is a relationship?
when you have 2 or more sets of data that works together
what is is scientific consensus?
when scientist compare their results, check each others work and come together to compare if its true
what is accuracy?
when something is exactly the same as what you measuring
what is precision?
when what you’re measuring is closer to each other that to your target
what are the 2 types of errors in science?
1) systematic errors
2) random error
what is a systematic error?
an error that affects the accuracy of a measurement, it will produce errors that will produce results that are consistent but wrong
what is a random error?
an error that affects precision of a measurement.
how do you fix a systematic error?
you have to remove whatever is the cause of the inacuracy
how do you fix a random error?
gather more data and averaging the measurements together
what are the 7 steps to designing an experiment?
1) ask a scientific question
2) present a hypothesis
3) identify your variables
4) establish your groups
5) collect data
6) compare your groups
7) draw your conclusion
