learning math!!!
Atmosphere
- a layer of gasses that surround our Earth or other planets
Humidity
amount of water vapor in the air
Precipitation
liquid or frozen water that falls from the atmosphere to the surface of the Earth
Forecast
A prediction or estimate of future weather conditions
Air Mass
A large body of air with similar characteristics (temperature and moisture etc) throughout
Front
The boundary between two air masses with different temperatures and humidity levels
Warm Front
the boundary of an advancing mass of warm air ( the symbol is usually a red line with half-circles pointing in the direction it travels)
Cold Front
the boundary of an advancing air mass of colder air (the symbol is usually a blue line with triangles pointing in the direction it travels)
Condensation
– The process by which a gas changes into a liquid
100% Relative Humidity
We learned that 100% humidity is the maximum amount of water vapor that air can hold at any given temperature; warm air can hold more water than cold air
Higher Air Pressure-
Air pressure that is greater that the surrounding air pressure (The symbol is usually an H)
Lower Air Pressure
Air pressure that is less than the surrounding air pressure (the symbol is usually an L) and it tends to correspond with the appearance of cloudier skies and in some cases precipitation.
Air Pressure
The force exerted by the weight of the air above a given point
Prevailing Winds
winds that usually blow in a particular direction
Coriolis Effect
the sun heats the air near the equator causing it to move, but because Earth rotates on its axis, moving air circles to the right in the northern hemisphere and to the left in the southern hemisphere.
