Science Test-Term 3 Week 10- Force Flashcards
Why does a helicopter spin?
Because of air resistance and gravity
What are forces
Forces are push and/or pull factors
What are contact forces?
Contact forces are things like thrust, air resistance, compression, upthrust, friction and tension
What are non-contact forces?
Non contact forces are gravity, electrical and magnetic forces, as they do not need to be forced for them to work
How do we represent forces
With arrows, big arrows meaning bigger force and small arrows meaning less force
What holds water on a coin
Surface tension
What is a permanent magnet?
A magnet that retains its magnetic properties
What is a temporary magnet?
A magnet that doesn’t retain its magnetic properties
What are magnetic poles?
Magnetic poles are poles that are magnetic and have a North Pole and a South Pole
What are magnetic fields
A region around a magnet
What is an electromagnet
A soft metal core made into a magnet
What is mass and how is it measured
It is measured in
