science test quiz Flashcards
Outline the importance of biodiversity in creating a healthy ecosystem
Answer: Biodiversity plays a major role in maintaining the balance of the earth
Describe the types of biodiversity
Genetic- the difference that one specie is from another
Species- the kind of difference between species
Ecosystem- the difference between ecosystems
Describe the energy flow in an ecosystem using food chains and food webs
Answer: primary consumers use energy from the sun to produce their own food in the form of glucose, then primary consumers are eaten by primary consumers who are eaten by secondary consumers and so on. Energy flows from one trophic level or level of the food chain.
Describe how populations are controlled in an ecosystem
They are controlled by a cycle that is the cycle of life and they have predators, they are predators and that goes on , but the ecosystem that they live needs to be balanced because it doesn’t work out
Describe environmental ‘tipping points’
small intervention that leads to major long-term consequences which are hard to reverse
Define and give examples of natural resources
Natural resources are resources that come from nature and that we use to survive
Exemple: Oil, coal, natural gas, metals, stone and sand are natural resources.
Distinguish between renewable and non-renewable natural resources
Answer: Renewable resources: solar energy, soil, trees, gasses etc.
Non renewable: oil, steel, aluminum, coal
Identify some ways in which humans develop/impact natural resources
Answer; Humans impact the physical environment in many ways such as: overpopulation, pollution, burning fossil fuels and deforestation. Changes like this have triggered climate change undrinkable water and etc.
Outline the role of petroleum in the production of petrochemicals beyond its use for energy
It produces variou materials for example; rubber, plastics, paint, cosmetics etc that help in our daily life.
Describe combustion as complete and incomplete reaction with oxygen
Answer: Complete combustion takes place with a sufficient amount of oxygen while incomplete combustion take place with insufficient oxygen.
