Science Test Friday 8th Of December 2023 Flashcards
What is filtration
The process in which solid particles in a liquid or gaseous fluids are removed by the use of a filter medium that permits the fluid to pass through but retains the solid particles
What is evaporation?
Evaporation is a type of vaporisation that occurs on the surface of a liquid as it changes into the gas phase . High concentration of the evaporating substance in the surrounding gas significantly slows down evaporation, such as when humidity affects rate of evaporation of water
What is chromatography?
Chromatography is a laboratory technique for the separation of a mixture into its components. The mixture is dissolved in a fluid solvent called the mobile phase . Which carries it through a system on which a material called the stationary pass is fixed .
(According to google)
What is distillation ?
The action of PURIFYING a liquid by a process of heating and cooling
What is a condenser? ( picture it and label it in your head)
Condenser is a machine used for filtration
E.g salty water into the condenser , use a Bunsen burner to make the water evaporate and rise and the salt will stay at the bottom , the water then condenses at the side ( because of the cool tap water that is flowing) and will be poured out fresh
What was the skittle’s chromatography experiment?
Take a sheet of chromatography paper and put dots on it using skittle water , the place it in a beaker with water and the colours will separate again
How to measure area?
Multiply length by width
Explain the form of particles in a solid
Closely packed together and vibrating
Explain the particle form of a gas
All over the place ( flying in a way)
Explain the particles in a liquid?
Still close together but with larger gaps between particles
