Science Test Climate Change Flashcards
What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is when sunlight and carbon dioxide are changed into glucose and oxygen.
What is respiration?
Respiration uses oxygen and glucose to grow and reproduce but makes carbon dioxide as a by product.
What is weather?
Weather is the condition of the atmosphere or air on our planet. There are many factors that change the atmosphere like temperature and humidity. It is constantly changing.
What is climate?
Climate is what the weather is like over a long period of time in a specific area.
Name the 5 greenhouse gases
Carbon dioxide, Nitrogen dioxide, Water Vapour, Methane, and Oxygen.
What is the atmosphere?
The atmosphere surrounds the Earth. It is made up of gases that trap the heat from the sun and keeps out harmful UV rays from the sun.
Explain The Greenhouse Effect
Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere absorb heat that bounces back off the Earth; This creates the Greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect maintains Earth’s unique temperature and allows our biosphere to survive.
The equation for incomplete combustion
Fuel + oxygen > carbon monoxide + water or
Fuel + oxygen > carbon (solid) + water
The equation for complete combustion
Fuel + oxygen > carbon dioxide + water
What is combustion?
Combustion is the burning of fuel in oxygen to produce water and carbon dioxide. It is an exothermic reaction which means it produces heat (gives off) to the environment.
