Science Test #2 Flashcards
Define Hypothesis
An educated inference as a starting point for further investigation
Define Variable
An element, feature, or factor that is liable to vary or change
Define Independent Variable
The variable that you change in an experiment; the cause in a cause & effect relationship
Define Dependent Variable
The variable that changes based on the independent variable; the effect on a cause & effect relationship
4 ways in which you can be safe and prevent an accident in the science l
- Know where things like fire extinguisher and emergency button are
- Don’t run
- If glass breaks, tell a teacher and don’t touch it
- Wear safety goggles w/ glass & chemicals
Explain how neuroplasticity was shown in your experiment
In my experiment, both me and my partners attempts were lowest at trial 3. This relates to neuroplasticity because our brains got used to where the target is and right motion we have to do to hit it.
Qualitative vs. quantitative
Qualitative means measuring something by sensory description, like smell, color, texture. Quantitative means measuring something by numbers, like cm tall, degrees Celsius.
4 factors that can impact either the structure or functioning of the brain
- Smoking
- Brain injury
- Alcohol
- Excessive screen time
Define Neuroplasticity
The ability of the brain to make synaptic connections
Define observing
Noticing something and registering it as being important
Define predicting
As estimate that will happen in the future
Define inferring
To deduce information from evidence and reasoning
Define classifying
Arrange in categories according to shared qualities or characteristics
Define communicating
Share information, news, or ideas
Define measuring metrically
To quantify using metric units
What is the hypothesis in your experiment
The hypothesis we wrote before the experiment
What are the variables in your experiment
With/ Without goggles, and the attemps
What is the dependent variable in your experiment
Amount of attemps
What is the independent variable in your experiment
With/Without goggles
Example of how scientists observe
A biologist might notice how different animals interact with each other
