Science Test Flashcards
Friction
Is the resistance that a surface encounters when it rubs against each other
Cohesion
Is the measure of how strongly fluid particles are attracted to each other
Adhesion
Is the attraction between the fluid particles and another substance
Concentration
Affects viscosity based on the amount of a substance is dissolved in a fluid
Temperature
An increase in temperature will reduce a liquids viscosity, and and decrease in temperature will increase fluid viscosity
Particle size
Larger particles will experience greater viscosity while smaller particles will experience less viscosity
Displacement
It occurs when something takes the place of something else
Density
Is a ratio that compares mass to volume for a substance.
Density formula
Density = mass / volume
Buoyancy
Is the upward force that a fluid exerts on a object
Archimedes principle
States the upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object.
Volumetric flow rate
Is the volume of fluid which passes per unit of time
Volumetric flow rate formula
Flow rate = volume of fluid passing/ time
Volume = 3.14 r *2 h
(Cylinder)
Pascals law
States that if pressure is exerted on a fluid, it will be evenly distributed throughout the Food
Viscosity
Is a measure of a fluids resistance to flow
