Science test 1 Flashcards
Where an Organism lives.
Habitat
All the Earth’s water in solid, liquid and gas form.
Hydrosphere
A sequence of organisms, each feeding on the next, showing the movement of energy.
Food Chain
An organism that obtains its energy from producers.
Herbivore
Living factors that effect an ecosystem.
Biotic factors
Non-living physical and chemical components of an ecosystem.
Abiotic Factors
A representation of all the feeding relationships within a community.
Food Web
All the living organisms and their physical and chemical environment.
Ecosystem
Collection of organisms living in the same geographical area.
Community
The layer of gases surrounding the earth.
Atmosphere
An organism that makes its own food.
Producer
The function/role a species serves in its ecosystem, including what it eats, what eats it and how it behaves.
Niche
Earths solid outer layer.
Lithosphere
A group of organisms of the same species living together.
Population
Lithosphere, atmosphere and hydrosphere together.
Biosphere
What is an invasive species?
A species that is introduced and non-native to the ecosystem, that causes damage to the ecosystem.
Name one or more invasive species.
Emerald ash boar, Zebra mussels
Cell Respiration
The process when sugar and oxygen are converted into carbon dioxide
Photosynthesis
When the Sun’s energy is converted into chemical energy
Bioaccumulation
Environment–> Animal
Bioamplification
One animal to another animal up the food chain
Carbon cycle
The movement of carbon around the biosphere
Nitrogen cycle
The movement of nitrogen around the biosphere
