The phases of the moon in order
New moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous,
full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, waning crescent
Lunar eclipse
A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly behind earth and into its shadow
The order has the sun then earth then moon aligned
Solar eclipse
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and earth and blocks part of the earth
The angle of which the axis is tilted
At 23.5 degrees
Summer solstice
The summer solstice occurs on December 22nd because the suns track reaches the sky at its highest point.
This is the longest day in the year
Winter solstice
The winter solstice occurs on June 22nd.
This is the shortest day in the year.
Equinox
An equinox is when the sun crosses the celestial equator, when the day and night are of equal length.
This happens on the 22 September and 22 march
Rotation
The spinning of a body on it’s axis
The earth spinning on its axis
Revolution
Movement of one body around another body
Axis
The imaginary line about which an object in space spins
Orbit
The path followed by an object in space as it revolves around another object
Seasons in the north and summer
In the northern if it is summer then the souther it is winter.
In the northern if it is winter then the southern is summer
How long it takes the earth to rotate
It takes 24 hours to rotate around its axis
How long it takes the earth takes to revolve
It takes a year for the earth to revolve around the sun
