science study tool over the unit all of the stuff we learnd Flashcards
rotation
the act of spinning around an axis for example how earth spins on its axis
revolution
the movement of one object around another for example how the earth travels around the sun
axis
an imaginary line that an object rotates around for example the earth axis runs from the North pole bro the south pole.
gravity
the force that pulls objects toward each other for example Gravity keeps us on the ground and pulls objects down
exert
to apply or bring something into use for example to exert force means to push or pull with force.
orbit
the curved path that an object takes as it moves around another object in a space for example the path the earth takes around the sun
equator
an imaginary line that divides the earth into northern and southerine hemispheres it is located halfway between the north and south poles
what are the differences between rotation an revolution
earth rotates as it revolves around the sun.earth takes 365 days to make a full revolution around the sun.
why do we have leap year
because there are actually 365 .25 days in a year so every four years we have one extra day second the seasons will be messed up
what degree is the earth tilted at
23-5
recognize that the rotation of the earth on its axis produces day and night
there are 24 hours in a day meening that it takes 24 hours for the earth to make one full rotation this is why the sun stars and moon appear to change position in the sky they are moving because of the rotation
why do we have seasons
because of tilt
if the earth was straight up and down the temp would…
never change
the earth north and south poles have days of what?
no light and no darkness
