Science Semester 1 Exam Flashcards
What is the Nervous System?
The Nervous System is a communication network that controls other systems of the human body
What are the Two main parts of the Nervous System?
The Nervous System is split into 2 parts, the Central Nervous System(CNS) and the Peripheral Nervous System(PNS).
What is the Central Nervous System(CNS)?
The Central Nervous System is made up of the Brain and Spinal cord. They receive messages from the body and tell it how to respond
What is the Peripheral Nervous System(PNS)?
The Peripheral Nervous System is made up of the nerves that carry messages from the CNS to other parts of the body
What are Nerves?
Nerve cells, or Neurons make up the nervous system. They carry electrical messages called Nerve Impulses to and from parts of the body at very high speeds
What are the parts of a Neuron?
A neuron has 4 main parts, the Cell body, the Dendrites, the Axon Terminals and the Axon.
What is a Cell Body?
The Cell Body contains the nucleus, making it the control centre of the cell.
What are Dendrites?
The Dendrites receive nerve impulses from other cells, which it than sends onto the cell body
What is the Axon and Axon Terminal?
The Axon sends the nerve impulses away from the cell body and the Axon Terminals pass the nerve impulses onto the next neuron
How tall is Aaron?
5ft
