Science Quiz Flashcards
Homogeneous mixture
They can’t be dissolved into each other
Heterogeneous mixture
They are mixed but not dissolved together
Mechanical mixture
two or more types of matter that are not mixed evenly.
Suspension
A solid does not dissolve into liquid
Solution
A mixture of two or more substances that are mixed and dissolved
Elements
a pure substance that can’t be broken down into other substances.
Compounds
a substance made up of two or more elements joined together by a chemical bond.
Melting point
solid to a liquid.
Evaporation
liquid into a gas.
Condensation
water vapor turns into water.
Freezing point
liquid to a solid.
Sublimation
Solid to a gas
Deposition
gas to a solid.
Physical property
Looking at something but not destroying it
Chemical property
how substance reacts with something else
Physical change
A change from one state to another and no new substances formed.
Chemical change
A substance is transformed into a new substance through chemical reaction
Quantitative
Something represented in numbers
Qualitative
relating to the quality rather than its quantity.
Three states of matter
Solid, liquid, gas.
Particle theory
All matter is composed of very tiny objects called particles, whole particles has space between them, the particles and a substance attract each other.
Particles of a solid equal, lots of attraction
Particles of a liquid equals some attraction
Particles of gas equal very little attraction.
