Q

Name two different kinds of igneous rocks, and explain how and where they were formed.

A

Two different kinds of igneous rocks are pumice and obsidian. Pumice is an extrusive rock formed when lave touches water and cools which then gives out gasses that cause tiny holes. Obsidian is also an extrusive rock formed when lava cools very fast which makes the rock very smooth and is called volcanic glass.

Q

Name two metamorphic rocks and explain how they were made, and from what other rocks.

A

Two metamorphic rocks are marble and quartzite. Marble is formed from limestone, a sedimentry rock, and made from pressure and heat. Quartzite is made form sandstone, also a sedimentry rock, and made from extreme pressure.

Q

Anthracite coal and bituminous coal are fossil fuels that can be burned to produce heat and electricity. Why do we call them “fossil fuels”? Why could we eventually run out of them?

A

Anthracite coal and bituminous coal are fossil fuels that can be burned to produce heat and electricity. The reason we call them “fossil fuels”, is because it is a fuel that forms from the hardens fossilized bones of animals that died thousands of years ago. We can eventually run out of them because we have been digging them up for thousands of years and there was just so many dinosoured that died.

Q

If you found a rock you haven’t seen before, what are some clues you could look for to help identify it? (How can we differentiate betweem different types of rocks?)

A

If I were to find a rock I have never seen before, some clues I could look for to help identify the rock would be the density, color, streak, and the luster of the rock.
