Science (Practical Test) Flashcards
Microscope parts' functions
Function of Revolving Nosepiece ( Also another Name of it)
Nosepiece holds the objective lenses and is sometimes called a revolving turret.
Function of Eyepiece Lens/ Ocular Lens
Eyepiece Lens magnifies the image of the specimen.
Function of Eyepiece Tube
Eyepiece tube holds the eyepiece.
Function of Objective Lenses
These lenses are used for detailed examination of specimens and provide high levels of magnification.
Function of Arm
The Arm connects the base to the nosepiece and eyepiece. It is the structural part that is also used to carry the microscope.
Function of Stage
The stage is where the specimen is placed
Function of Stage Clips
Stage clips are the supports that hold the slides in place on the stage.
Function of Diaphragm (sometimes called the Iris)
The diaphragm controls the amount of light passing through the slide.
Function of illuminator/ Light (In light microscope)
Supplies light through the stage and onto to the specimen.
Function of Coarse Focus
Coarse focus moves the stage to provide general focus on the specimen.
Function of Fine Focus
Fine focus moves the stage in smaller increments to provide a clear view of the specimen.
Function of Base
The base is the main support of the microscope.
