Science Post-Test Flashcards
Test is on Thursday, May 16th
What is the difference between weather and climate?
Weather is what is happening right now, and climate is what happens over time.
Definition of Air:
It compresses, it takes up space, has mass, and is made of gasses.
Do the concentrations of gas change or do they stay the same?
They change.
If you increase air pressure does it increase volume? Temperature? Density? The number of particles?
It increases density, temperature, and the number of particles but not volume.
What does Air move from?
High to Low
How do you solve for density?
D = mass/volume
Why would a city at the equator be warmer than a city near the north pole or south pole?
Because of the solar angle. It’s straight down.
How are gas particles heated by conduction?
The sun radiates the ground through rays, the particles close to the ground get heated and go up.
What’s the difference between a land and a sea breeze?
The direction of the wind.
Which Earth material heats and cools the slowest?
Water.
Definition of a front:
A wave of warm or cool air.
Which way does wind blow in the NH? What effect is it?
It blows from west to east, and it is called the Coriolis effect.
What three things are needed to make clouds?
- Moisture in the air
- condensation nuclei
- cooling temperatures.
How does water go from the shower to a mirror in a cold room?
Air moves from high to low. When it touches the cools mirror it loses energy and it leaves the moist air and fogs up.
Where is most of the water on the Earth found?
The ocean. DUH
