Science-optics Unit Flashcards
What is light?
Light is an electromagnetic spectrum
What is a medium?
Any physical substance which energy can be transferred
Name the 6 types of rays on the electromagnetic spectrum
Radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, ultra violet rays, x- rays, gamma rays
Phosphorescence
Glow-in-the-dark
Chemiluminescence
Production of light by a chemical reaction with no heat
Bioluminescence
Production of light in living organisms through a chemical reaction.
Triboluminescence
Production of light from crush on certain Crystals
What do Li and Lr stand for
Angle I (angle of incidence) Angle R (angle of reflection)
What are the two laws of reflection
Li=Lr
Li, Lr and the normal all lie in the same plane
What is speculator reflection
Reflection off a flat surface, this creates an image. Does not scatter light. Ex mirror.
What is diffuse reflection
Reflection of light off an irregular surface, this produces no image, only light.
(Scatters light) example. Snow
What does SALT stand for
Size, attitude, location, type
If an image is reflected in front of the mirror the image is known as
A real image
If the in age is reflected behind the mirror, the image is known as
Virtual
What are the two rules of finding image using perpendicular lines
Image and object, or equidistant from mirror
Image line must be perpendicular to the mirror
