science Nov 10 Flashcards
air mass
A body of air with the same temperature and moisture throughout
Condensation
process by which water changes from GAS to LIQUID (water vapor cools and turns into a liquid)
Evaporation
Process by which water changes LIQUID to GAS (turns into water vapor)
Heat
a form of energy that transfers because of a temperature
Stable Air Mass
an air mass that usually stays at the surface of the earth and its temperature does not decrease with altitude (made of colder air)
Temperature
a measure of how hot/cold something is (the amount of heat energy absorbed)
unstable air mass
an air mass that RISES and its temperature DECREASES rapidly with an increase in altitude. Warm, less dense air will rise
Water Cycle
The movement and exchange of water between earth’s land, atmosphere and oceans
Water Vapor
water that has changed (evaporated) into a GAS.
