Science Landforms Test Flashcards
The process by which weathered materials are carried away and deposited in new locations.
Erosion
An area of land for which all of the water eventually flows to one central river.
Drainage Basin/Watershed
A long ridge of gravel and other sediments, typically having a winding course, deposited by meltwater from a retreating glacier or ice sheet.
Esker
When sand erodes at one end of the beach and piles up at another.
Longshore drift
A formation caused by the roof collapse of an underground cavity.
Sinkhole
Part of the erosion process in which materials are laid down in a new location.
Deposition
A fan shaped deposit of the fine silt and mud at the mouth of the river as it slows and enters the ocean.
Delta
A large formation of ice that slowly flows over time, carrying rock and soil with it.
Glacier
The rocks and sediment moved by a glacier.
Till
A rock formation formed by the materials left by a receding glacier.
Moraine
A line of high land that causes water to flow in opposite directions on either side of it.
