How can you tell if something is a pure substance?
By colour,density and odor

What is evaporation?
The act of turning a liquid into a gas
What is distillation?
the act of Heating a cooling a substance to make it pure
How are evaporation and distillation different?
distillation is heating and cooling where as Evaporation is Heating until steam
Describe how to carry out filtration
Use filter paper and put it in a cone shape and place it in the beaker and put the liquid in the paper and wait for the solids to filter out
Why can’t you separate a solvent from a solute using filtration?
Because the solute has dissolved becoming one with the solvent
What is chromatography used for?
its used for colour separation
Describe how to carry out chromatography
Simple chromatography is carried out on paper. A spot of the mixture is placed near the bottom of a piece of chromatography paper. The paper is then placed upright in a suitable solvent , such as water. As the solvent soaks up the paper, it carries the mixtures with it.
