Thermal energy
Thermal energy is the energy that is generated and measured by heat
Temperature
Temperature is a measurement related to the average kinetic energy of the particles contained in a system
Heat Transfer
The flow of thermal energy depending on the nature of the matter, the size of the sample, and the temperature of the enviorment
Fahrenheit
Temperature scale, used largely in the USA, on which water freezes at 32F and water boils at 212F
Celcius
Of or denoting a scale of temperature on which water freezes at 0 and boils at 100 under standard conditions
Kelvin
The SI base unit of thermodynamic temperature, equal in magnitude to the degree Celsius
Conduction
The transfer of heat energy due to a difference in temperature, always from the hotter body to the cooler
Convection
The transfer of thermal energy by currents
Radiation
Any form of energy that radiates outward from a source
Solid
A state of matter with definite volume and shape
Liquid
A state of matter with a definite volume, but no definite shape
Gas
A form of matter with indefinite shape and volume
Conductor
A substance in which electrical change carries
Insulator
Prevents the transfer of thermal energy
Conversation of Energy
A principle stating that energy can not be created or destroyed but can be altered from one form to another
