Science Final Study Guide Flashcards
Photosynthesis
- Is what plants do to get food and grow.
Carbon Dioxide
Is a bad gas that pollution and cars, trucks, and factories use. Carbon Dioxide is one of the reasons for global warming.
Glucose
a simple sugar that is an important energy source in living organisms and is a component of many carbohydrates.
Light Energy
energy that comes from light, like the sun.
Chloroplasts
- (in green plant cells) a plastid that contains chlorophyll and in which photosynthesis takes place.
Chlorophyll
- a green pigment, present in all green plants and in cyanobacteria, responsible for the absorption of light to provide energy for photosynthesis. Its molecule contains a magnesium atom held in a porphyrin ring.
Symbiotic Relationship
Have species called Mutualism, Commensalism, and Parasites.
Environment-
surrounding things, conditions, or influences; surroundings
Global Warming
- is the increase of the temperature of the ocean and the atmosphere and this is believed to has been causing earth’s climate to change.
Habitat
- a place where an animal lives
Instinct-
when someone or something is born knowing what to do.
Migration
- when an animal move to a warmer place, usually south, to be warmer during a cold season or winter
Organism
- An individual population individual organisms of a single species that share the same geographic location at the same time.
Pollute
- Is something that is really bad for our environment and could kill animals. This is a reason why animals are becoming extinct.
Biome
- large group of ecosystems that have similar organisms and have similar climates
Stimulus
- something that changes in the internal or external environment
Internal
- Something that is in you.
External
Something that is outside of you.
Internal Stimuli
Internal Stimuli- a virus your symptoms, an injury when your body get inflamed
External Stimuli
external when someone punches another person,
Abiotic Factors
nonliving organisms for example- a rock
Biotic Factors
living organisms for example- plants
Producer
plants, that can consume the sunlight and make it into food
Consumer
animals, cannot produce their own food so they have to find other animals or meat to eat
what are all the waves in the electromagnetic system?
There is visible light, radio waves, microwaves, ultra violet, infrared light, X-Rays, and Gamma Rays.
What are the layers of the earth?
All the layers are Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, then Inner Core.
Radio Waves
Best-known use for radio waves is communication; through televisions, cellphones, and radios, they all receive radio waves and convert them to vibrations so they can be heard.
Microwaves
Particles move very fast to heat food and other things up, could possibly be dangerous.
Infrared waves
These waves can be seen, but not by humans, low frequency, can damages your skin, used in thermal cameras, can cook food.
Visible light
The light seen by humans, Emits radiation heat. Can travel through a vacuum, space, and can travel through matter.
Ultra Violet
Hugh frequency, commit heat, can damage your skin, not always harmful though.
Gamma rays
Most hazardous and strong wave, have a very high frequency. Just remember what happened to hulk for this!
Reflection
the throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it.
Refraction
the bending of light rays as they pass from one material to another
What is the formula of photosynthesis?
The formula is when the plant turns carbon dioxide into glucose or oxygen.
Where does photosynthesis happens?
It occur in the chloroplasts of plants
Why does photosynthesis happen?
Plants use the sunlight as food
