science - final exam study guide Flashcards
How do you find the molar mass of a chemical formula?
Subscript x Atomic mass.
What bond is two nonmetals?
Covalent bond and they share electrons!
What bond is a metal and nonmetal?
Ionic bond and they transfer electrons!
When an atom loses electrons:
Anion (negative)
When an atom gains electrons:
Cation (positive)
Chemical change examples:
Color change, new smell, temperature changes, rust, and cooking.
Physical change examples:
Freezing and Melting.
What are ways that you can increase the rate of a chemical reaction:
Increasing surface area, temperature, stirring, concentration, and adding a catalyst.
Exothermic reaction:
When heat is made because all the cold air is released.
Endothermic reaction:
When all the heat is absorbed, causing the cold air to increase.
Hydrogen bonds..
Hold 2 or more water MOLECULES together.
What is cohesion:
Water molecules are attracted to OTHER water molecules.
What is adhesion:
Water molecules are attracted to substances that AREN’T water.
What is abiotic and biotic?
Abiotic is nonliving, biotic is living.
What is frost wedging?
When water gets into cracks of rocks and expands, then freezes.
