Science electricity Flashcards
static electricity
a stationary electric charge, typically produced by friction, which causes sparks or crackling or the attraction of dust or hair.
law of conservation of charge
in a closed system, the total electric charge always remains constant
conductor
In physics and electrical engineering, a conductor is an object or type of material that allows the flow of charge in one or more directions.
insulator
An electrical insulator is a material in which electric current does not flow freely.
charging by contact
when we bring any object in contact with another object, then some transfer of charges will take place simply by touching.
charging by induction
The charging by induction definition states that it is a process of charging conducting bodies without touching them or by bringing the two conducting bodies near to each other.
electric current
An electric current is a flow of charged particles, such as electrons or ions, moving through an electrical conductor or space. It is defined as the net rate of flow of electric charge through a surface.
voltage difference
Voltage, also known as (electrical) potential difference, electric pressure, or electric tension is the difference in electric potential between two points.
circuit
An electronic circuit is composed of individual electronic components, such as resistors, transistors, capacitors, inductors and diodes, connected by conductive wires or traces through which electric current can flow.
resistance
Electrical resistance is a measure of the opposition to the flow of current in an electrical circuit.
Ohm´s law
Ohm’s Law is a formula used to calculate the relationship between voltage, current and resistance in an electrical circuit.
series circuit
series circuit, any electrically conducting pathway comprising an electric circuit along which the whole current flows through each component.
parallel circuit
Parallel circuit, an electrical path that branches so that the current divides and only part of it flows through any branch.
electric power
Electric power is the rate of transfer of electrical energy within a circuit. Its SI unit is the watt, the general unit of power, defined as one joule per second.
wet cell battery
Wet cell batteries enable high power outputs, and rapid discharge as the free flow of electrolytes facilitates high currents.
