Science Definitions Flashcards
Transparent
Translucent
Opaque
Transparent- materials that allow light to past through or no reflection
Opaque- materials that do not allow light to pass through
Umbra
Penumbra
Umbra -fully shaded region of a shadow
Penumbra - the partially shaded region of a shadow formed by some light passing an opaque object
1) Reflection
2) Refraction
1) the throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it.
2) change in direction of light as it travels from one material to another
1) specular reflection
2) diffuse reflection
1) reflection off smooth surface
2) reflection of light off an uneven surface and makes the light scatter in many different directions
1) real image
2) virtual Image
1) an image that appears on the same side of a concave mirror as the object
2) an image that appears to be on the other side of the location, light rays do not pass through the image location
Incidence
A ray of light is incidence towards a plane mirror
Concave
Convex
Concave - having an outline or surface that curves inward like the interior of a circle
Convex- an object that’s shaped like a dome
Visible light spectrum
Colours of visible light which can be seen by the eye , the colours seen in a rainbow or when light is split by a prism
Electromagnetic radiation
All form of radiation energy visible light, infected radiation radio wave, x-ray etc
Wavelength
Distance between the top or peak of one wave to the peak of the next
Ray
A direct straight line that represent the path followed by the light
Illuminance
The amount of light arriving at one place per unit area
Lenses
Retina
Pupil
Iris
Lenses-price of glass or other transparent material that either brings together or spreads light rays passing through it
Retina- special lining on the back of your eye
Pupil- opening in the eh that lets in light
Iris- band of muscle in your eye that controls the size of pupil and the amount of light entering your eye
Diaphragm
Aperture
CCDmatrix
Diaphragm- part that changes the size of the aperture of camera lens
Aperture- a hole gap or opening
CCDmatrix- Charged Coupled Device cells in a camera which has the similar function as the retina
Myopia
Hyperopia
Myopia- lack of imagination, foresight, or intellectual insight
Hyperopia- farsightedness
