Science Chemistry review Flashcards
Single displacement
A+ BC = AC + B
Notes: In a single displacement reaction involving and ionic compound and a metal. The metal is always replaced in the compound. When and aqueous or when a metal is placed in acid.
Double displacement
AB+ CD= AD+ CD
Many double displacements occur between two ionic compounds in aqueous solution.
Synthesis
A+ B= AB
(When two reactions make a big one)
decomposition
AB= A+B
(when a large or more complex molecules breaks down to form two or more simpler products)
Combustion
CxHy (When the c and h are by each other
Ionic compounds
- Made up of ions that form changed particles when and atom (or group of atoms gains or loses electrons
cations? anion?
+ and -
acids? Base?
Acids end in H. Base end in OH
What do you use to balance chemicals?
M- metals
I- ions (polytonic ions)
N- non- metals
o- oxygen
H- hydrogen
Naming molecular compounds
make first element (don’t criss cross)
-name second element (use ide for the endings)
Naming chemicals
Most of the time add Ide ending to second element don’t use ide if it is a polytonic ion. If transition metal you add roman numerals numerals
Prefixes
1- Mono
2- di
3-tri
4 - tetra
5- Penta
6- hexa
