Science chapter 2 Flashcards
diffusion
the moment of partials from regions of regions of higher density to lower density
osmosis
the diffusion of water through a semipermeable membrane
passive transport
the movement of substances across a cell membrane without the use of energy by the cell
active transport
the movement of substances across the cell membrane that requires the cell to use energy
endocytosis
the process by which a cell membrane surrounds a particle and encloses the particle in a vesicle to bring the partial into the cell
exocytosis
the process in which a cell resales a particle by enclosing the participle in a vesicle that enclosing the particle in a vesicle that then moves t the cell surface and fuses with the cell membrane
photosynthesis
the process in which plants, algae, and some bacteria use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make food
cellular respiration
the process by which cells use oxygen to produce energy from food
fermantion
the breakdown of food without the use of oxygen
cell cycle
the life cycle of a cell
chromosome
chromosome is made of protein and a single molecule of oligonucleotide acid (DNA). Passed from parents to offspring, DNA contains the specific instructions that make each type of living creature unique.
homologous chromosomes
Homologous chromosomes are similar but not identical. Each carries the same genes in the same order, but the alleles for each trait may not be the same.
mitosis
in Eukaryota cells, a process of cell division the forms two new nuclei, each has the same number of chromosomes
cytokineses
the division of the cytoplasm of a cell
