Science cells test Flashcards
What is a cell membrane>
A cell membrane is a thin layer that forms a boundary, controlling what substances go in and out of the cell and contains the contents in the cell.
What is a cell?
A cell is the smallest unit of life. All living things are made from it. It cannot be seen with the naked eye.
Cell wall
The cell is a rigid structure that strengthens and protects the cell.
Neuron
The neuron is a branched cell that sends signals to the brain through nerves.
Red blood cell
the red blood cells carries oxygen through the body
Chloroplast
Absorbs sunlight and collects energy from sugars. It contains chlorophyll and it is where photosynthesis takes place.
Chlorophyll
A green substance that absorbs sunlight for photosynthesis.
White blood cells
Protects you from infections
What are the levels of organsiation?
Cell- tissue- organ- organ system- organism
tissue
A group of similar cells that work together.
unicelluar organism
Living things that are made up of a single cell
What are examples of a unicellar organism
Bacteria, yeast
Multicelluar organism
Living things that are made from 2 or more cells.
examples of a multicellar organisms
humans, animals
What is cytosol?
The green substance that fills a cell.
Nuclelus
an organelle that controlls a cells activiety and stores dna
Organelle
A structure in a cell that performs a function
Organ
part of the body that performs a specific function
specialised cell
a cell with unqiue structure performing certain functions in the body.
Vacuole
organelle that stores fluids such as nutrients and wastes.
fat cell
stores excess energy from food
intestinal lining cell
cell with fingure like structures that absorb water.
mitochondria
organelle that breaks down sugars to supply energy
muscle cell
thing long cell
