Science Cells Flashcards
Basic unit of life
Cell
A cell that contains a cell membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus
Animal cell
Controls the entry and exit of materials from the cell
Cell membrane
Organism with only 1 cell
Unicellular
Jelly like substance where some chemical reactions occur.
Cytoplasm
A cell that contains a cell membrane, nucleus, vacuole, chloroplast, cytoplasm and cell wall
Plant cell
Organisms with more than one cell
Multicellular
Store of cell sap (salts, water and nutrients)
Vacuole
Device that uses visible light and series of lenses to produce an enlarged image of an object
Light microscope
Controls cell activities
Nucleus
Gives support to plant cells
Cell wall
Contains green pigment called chlorophyll which is needed to trap light for photosynthesis
Chloroplast
A group of similar cells that carry out the same function, eg muscles tissue
Tissue
A cell that has became differentiated to carry out a particular function, eg red blood cell
Specialised
A group of different tissues that work together to carry out a particular function, eg heart and kidney
Organ
