Science and the Natural World Flashcards
What skills do scientist use?
Scientist use skills such as observing, inferring, predicting, classifying, evaluating, and making models to study the world.
What is observing?
Using one or more of your senses to gather information.
What is quantitative observation?
Observations that deal with numbers, or amounts.
What is qualitative observation?
Obsevations that can’t be expressed in numbers.
What is inferring?
Explaining or interpreting the things you observe. They are based on reasoning from what you already know. They could also be based on assumptions you can make anout your observations.
What is predicting?
Making a statement or claim about what will happen in the future based on past experience or evidence.
What is classifying?
The grouping together of items that are alike in some way.
What is evaluating?
Comparing observations and data to reach a conclusion about them.
What is making models?
Creating representations of compex objects or processes
