Science Flashcards
Cycle
A series of events that are regularly repeated in the same order.
Deposit
A deposition is a geological process in which sediments, soil, and rocks are added to a landform or land mass.
Erosion
Erosion is the geological process in which earthen materials are worn away and transported by natural forces such as wind or water.
Extrusive
Extrusive rocks are any rock derived from magma
Extrusive rock, any rock derived from magma
Fossils are the preserved remains, or traces of remains, of ancient organisms.
Igneous rock
Igneous rocks form when hot, molten rock crystallizes and solidifies.
Intrusive
Intrusive, rocks form when magma is trapped deep inside the Earth
Lava
Molten magmatic material that expels a volcano or the eruption of a volcanic fissure on the earth’s surface where it cools and solidifies.
Magma
Magma is the name given to the melt rock masses inside the Earth or other planets. They are usually composed of a mixture of liquids, volatile and solids
Metamorphic
Is organism know because it changes its form.
Metamorphic rock
Metamorphic rocks are made when heat and pressure produce changes in any type of rock.
Pressure
The pressure exerted by surrounding solids on the support system of underground openings
Rock
In geology, each of the various solid materials, formed by crystals or grains of one or more minerals, is called rock.
Rock cycle
Rock cycle describes material transitions in geologic time that allow all rock to transform into one of the three types of rocks.
Sediment
Sediment is a solid material that is moved and deposited in a new location.
