science Flashcards
what is photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process used by plants and other organisms to convert light energy into chemical energy
without plants or Algae we would not have
oxygen, glucose, fruits, vegetables, foods, wheat / grains, animals, herbs / medicine, paper
What is needed for Phototsynthesis
water, light ,carbon dioxide, soil, nutrient
What is produced by Photosynthesis
glucose starch sugar fats/oils cellulose which makes the plant walls strong oxygen
what is the chemical equation
6 CO2 + 6 H2O +sunlight –> C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2
word equation
carbon dioxide + water + energy –> glucose + oxygen
what is Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is a green pigment that is produced by Chloroplasts
Platelets
involved in clotting and healing damaged blood vessels.
Plasma
transports carbon dioxide, digested chemicals, urea and other chemicals produced by the body.
Veins
Carry blood to the heart
Capillaries
Allow gas and chemical exchange between blood and surrounding tissues
Arteries
Carry blood away from the heart
Aerobic Respiration
Release of a large amount of energy in cells by breaking down glucose in the presence of oxygen.
Anaerobic Respiration
Release of a smaller amount of energy () in cells by breaking down glucose without the presence of oxygen.
Alveoli
Air sacs in the lungs; site of gas exchange in lungs
